Employability Service West Cork is a free, confidential supported employment and recruitment service for adults aged 18 to 65 who are out of work due to a long term medical condition, illness, injury, mental health difficulty, or disability. Operated by Workstart West Cork Limited, trading as Employability Service West Cork, the organization was established in 2001 and has been a registered charity since 2007. It is funded by the Department of Social Protection and is part of the national EmployAbility network, one of 23 supported employment organizations in Ireland, working closely with Intreo and local stakeholders across the region. The service pairs each jobseeker with a dedicated job coach who provides career guidance, tailored employment action planning, CV and application support, targeted job search, interview preparation, and ongoing in work support to help individuals secure and sustain roles that match their strengths, interests, and capabilities. Access is typically through referral from the Department of Social Protection, and participants are expected to be job ready and willing to work independently for at least eight hours per week. For employers, the team delivers a free recruitment solution that specializes in matching motivated, capable candidates to real workforce needs, offering practical advice on inclusive hiring, workplace adjustments, and available grants. Guidance covers national initiatives such as the Work Placement Experience Programme, the Work and Access Scheme, JobsPlus, short term training supports, the Job Interview Interpreter Grant, the Personal Reader Grant, and the Part Time Job Incentive Scheme. The service also facilitates work experience opportunities so candidates can trial sectors before committing. Operating from offices in Bantry, Skibbereen, Clonakilty, Bandon, and Kinsale with outreach in Dunmanway and Castletownbere, Employability Service West Cork has helped over 1,000 people into employment since 2011 across part time and full time, permanent and relief roles, from entry level through to management, while providing local employers with quality staff and ongoing support.
