Company Description

Founded in 1993, the Health Employers Association of British Columbia (HEABC) is the accredited bargaining agent for most publicly funded health employers in the province, representing a diverse membership of more than 200 organizations ranging from small affiliates with specialized services to large health authorities employing thousands. Headquartered in Vancouver, HEABC negotiates six major provincial agreements that collectively cover more than 185,000 unionized health care employees, and its Medical Staff Services team coordinates the negotiation of provincial and local physician contracts, including the Physician Master Agreement. Beyond bargaining, HEABC provides provincial leadership in human resources and labour relations strategy, offering expertise in general labour relations services, human resource planning, education and training, occupational health and safety, job classification, executive compensation, and specialized recruitment to help members build and retain a skilled health workforce. The association operates key data and reporting infrastructure such as the Health Sector Compensation Information System (HSCIS) and the Difficult to Fill Vacancy Survey, enabling consistent, evidence-based decision making across the system, and delivers practical workshops and webinars approved for Law Society of BC CPD credits on topics like investigations, discipline and grievance management, selection processes, and performance management in unionized environments. HEABC also partners with the Province, health employers and stakeholders to advance elements of BCs Health Human Resources Strategy, including province-wide recruitment marketing and expedited pathways to residency for internationally trained professionals, and supports safer workplaces through initiatives like the Enhanced Disability Management Program and violence prevention education. Its Essential Services Database and other sector tools support consistent application of legislative requirements during labour disruptions, while collective agreement resources, wage schedules, benchmarks and nursing job profiles provide transparent guidance for employers and managers.
